Interventional Cardiology & General Cardiology
delivered by a Consultant with 1,459 PCIs & NEJM publications
Expert private cardiology in Naas — chest pain, palpitations, hypertension, arrhythmia, heart failure, post-PCI follow-up and cardiovascular risk, combined with specialist interventional cardiology expertise in complex coronary disease, CTO, Rotational Atherectomy, IVL and intracoronary imaging.
Our cardiology service provides comprehensive, consultant-led assessment and management of a wide range of common outpatient cardiac and cardiovascular conditions. Every patient is seen by Dr Imtiaz Ali Kalyar — a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with over a decade of consultant-level experience.
Our combined cardiology and endocrinology model allows seamless integrated management of patients with overlapping cardiac and metabolic conditions — including those with diabetes, hypertension, obesity and dyslipidaemia.
"Integrated cardiac and metabolic care — assessing the heart and the conditions that put it at risk, together."
Cardiovascular disease and metabolic conditions are deeply interconnected. Patients with
type 2 diabetes face up to four times the cardiovascular risk of those without. Obesity
drives hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and structural heart changes. Treating these in
isolation leads to incomplete management.
Our integrated cardiology and endocrinology model — a distinctive integrated cardiometabolic service for patients in Naas, Kildare and the wider Leinster region —
allows us to assess and manage these overlapping risks in a single clinic visit, with
a coordinated treatment plan and unified correspondence to your GP.
Our cardiology service covers the full spectrum of outpatient cardiac assessment and management, from initial diagnostic workup through to long-term risk reduction.
Comprehensive evaluation of chest pain, shortness of breath and exercise intolerance to determine cardiac, respiratory, or other aetiology and guide appropriate management.
Specialist evaluation of palpitations, irregular heartbeat, and suspected arrhythmias, including access to ambulatory monitoring for symptomatic correlation.
Evidence-based diagnosis and optimisation of blood pressure management, including investigation for secondary causes and long-term cardiovascular risk assessment.
Assessment and management of suspected and confirmed heart failure, including optimisation of guideline-directed medical therapy and monitoring.
Specialist follow-up for patients who have undergone cardiac procedures or interventions, ensuring optimal recovery and long-term management planning.
Proactive assessment and treatment of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors, particularly in patients with diabetes, obesity and metabolic disease.
Our cardiology service sees patients referred with a broad range of cardiac and cardiovascular diagnoses.
Rate and rhythm control strategies, anticoagulation management, cardioversion review and ablation referral pathways.
Primary and secondary hypertension, resistant hypertension, and combined management with metabolic conditions.
HFpEF and HFrEF, medication optimisation, symptom management and tertiary referral coordination.
Stable angina, post-ACS management, secondary prevention and anti-anginal therapy optimisation.
SVT, ventricular ectopy, bradyarrhythmias, palpitations assessment and ambulatory monitoring.
Statin therapy, PCSK9 inhibitor consideration, familial hypercholesterolaemia and lipid optimisation.
Combined management of cardiac risk in patients with diabetes, obesity, NAFLD and insulin resistance.
Aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, valve surveillance and surgical referral planning.
Structural, arrhythmic, vasovagal and orthostatic assessment with appropriate investigation pathways.
Access to a comprehensive range of cardiac investigations, arranged promptly and reported by our consultant team.
Where investigations cannot be performed on-site, we arrange rapid access to accredited cardiac imaging and diagnostic centres, with results reviewed personally at your follow-up consultation.
Resting electrocardiogram for rhythm, conduction, and ischaemia assessment — available at every consultation.
Ambulatory cardiac rhythm monitoring for symptomatic palpitations, syncope, and AF burden assessment.
24-hour blood pressure profiling for accurate hypertension diagnosis, white coat effect exclusion, and treatment monitoring.
Referral for transthoracic echo — cardiac structure, function, valve assessment and LV/RV evaluation. Rapid access arranged.
Graded exercise testing for ischaemia assessment, exertional symptoms and post-intervention clearance.
Non-invasive coronary anatomy assessment. Arranged at partnered imaging centres with prompt reporting.
Troponin, BNP/NT-proBNP, lipid profile, HbA1c, renal function, and full metabolic workup as clinically indicated.

Dr Imtiaz Ali Kalyar is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with 16 years of interventional cardiology experience, including over 9 years at full consultant level across NHS trusts in the UK. He completed his Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth — one of the UK's leading tertiary cardiac centres — and has performed over 1,459 Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCIs) as first operator, including 406 Primary PCIs for acute myocardial infarction.
Dr Kalyar is an independent operator for Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) PCI, Rotational Atherectomy, and Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL). He performs IVUS, FFR, iFR/rFr and OCT independently. He has been Principal Investigator for multiple landmark clinical trials including SENIOR-RITA (published in the New England Journal of Medicine, September 2024), BLADE, and DUAL ACS.
His partnership with Dr Kazmi creates a distinctive integrated cardiometabolic service — enabling holistic, one-stop management of patients with overlapping diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, of particular value for GPs managing complex cardiometabolic patients.
Dr Kalyar is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist with one of the most extensive procedural portfolios available in private practice in Ireland. His interventional experience spans elective and emergency coronary intervention, complex lesion subsets, and advanced intracoronary imaging and physiology.
Over 1,459 PCIs performed as first operator including 406 Primary PCIs for acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Extensive experience with elective, urgent, and emergency coronary intervention via both radial and femoral approaches.
Independent antegrade CTO operator — one of the most technically demanding procedures in interventional cardiology, requiring advanced wire-escalation and microcatheter techniques to reopen long-standing coronary artery occlusions.
Independent Rotational Atherectomy operator for heavily calcified coronary lesions that are resistant to standard balloon preparation — enabling PCI in patients who would otherwise be unsuitable for percutaneous intervention.
Independent IVL operator — a newer modality using sonic pressure waves to fracture severe coronary calcification, facilitating stent delivery and expansion in complex calcified disease without the risks of high-pressure atherectomy.
Independent operator for IVUS (intravascular ultrasound), OCT (optical coherence tomography), FFR (fractional flow reserve), iFR and rFR — enabling precise lesion assessment, stent sizing, optimisation and post-dilatation guidance for the best possible outcomes.
Extensive experience on Primary PCI 24/7 on-call rotas at multiple UK NHS centres. CCU ward rounds, cardiology consults, A&E triage, and management of acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias and haemodynamic instability.
Dr Kalyar has been Principal Investigator for multiple landmark multicentre clinical trials and has published in some of the world's most prestigious medical journals.
